The Registered Organisations Commission is encouraging employers, employer associations and unions to make sure they understand the new ‘Corrupting Benefits’ laws.
The Fair Work Amendment (Corrupting Benefits) Act 2017 has been passed by Parliament and the new provisions are likely to commence soon.
“My Commission is helping registered organisations learn about their requirements under this Act,” Registered Organisations Commissioner, Mark Bielecki, said. “We aim to proactively educate all employer associations, peak employer bodies, and unions about their new responsibilities.”
The laws are intended to prevent employer-and-union collusion that may be detrimental to employees and members.
“I urge employers and registered organisations to subscribe to our regular email updates available through our website, so they can stay up-to-date with developments.” Commissioner Bielecki said. “We have extensive information on our website to help increase people’s awareness of the Act’s obligations and the consequences of not meeting these.”
The Registered Organisations Commission was established in May this year to regulate and promote accountability within employer associations and unions.
“We are working with other agencies that will be directly responsible for these provisions, such as the Fair Work Ombudsman and the police, to help them once this Act takes effect,” Commissioner Bielecki said. “We expect this Act to come into force soon.”
